The dialogue between the kids - especially between Karim and Raheen, but Zia and Sonia were guilty too - was unrealistic and annoyingly precious.

I don't know why I have never read Kamila Shamsie before, but I definitely want to read more of her work after reading this. Above all, Kartography is a love story.

At times it reminded me why I kind of preferred Lahore, and it captured so well many feelings I had about Karachi when I worked there.

Kartography is a gripping novel. Will the friendship between Raheen and Karim survive the pressures of the ethnic violence that surrounds them in the present as well as that which occurred even before their births? And so when I slammed Kartography shut, exhausted by the shamsif of its last pages, I tried to separate the beginning - that I did race through - from the sorely disappointing end.

I am often put in the same scenario constantly by my friends who do not live in Karachi. Events of were briefly mentioned in history class, and the eighties I wonder if are we ever going to learn from ?

Women of Pakistan - Kamila Shamsie - Kartography

Summer Bingo-One word title This is a beautifully told story about love, relationships, and coming of age in war torn Pakistan O-O I read and re-read it for many times. The story of the people in the book was also nice, but it was nowhere near as outstanding as the picture of the city it painted.

Against this suspenseful backdrop, Kartography is ostensibly a tale of children growing up in s Karachi, a period when the city was once again beset by ethnic strife. It is days away from when Raheen writes the following note to herself: Raheen struggles to untangle her parents' past which is colliding with her own world.

The Place of Politics. I have read other works by Shamsie, all worth reading, no doubt, and I agree that it is a writer's obligation to venture into new territory, but I believe that when she writes about Pakistan, is when she is truly in her element and at her very best.

Or are we waiting for another event like that.
