Joe is the son of a legendary gangster, and grandson of a clock-maker. Harkaway's books are not badly written, but I'm not sure that entirely solves the problem. A little bit of this kind of writing goes a long way -- and Harkaway never gives us more than a little bit.

Joe Spork from two realities meeting and morphing into one like Firestorm. Angelmaker is either a literary Steampunk novel or a Cold War-style espionage adventure, either way this is definitely a book worth trying. In this story we follow the life of Joe Spork, a maker and repairer of antique clockwork and does the occasional odds and ends nnick his clients. And on it goes, beyond summarisation, making Don Quixote look sedentary.

But here is Angelmaker: He also gave me The Gone Away Worldwhich is where the story really starts. I just wanted to read it in big gulps - but I didn't because if you read this book too fast, you will inevitably miss it's quirky humor and fascinating characters.

There isn't any character development in her case, but young Edie is interesting enough to have a great story. Constant tangents and dull, droning prose just couldn't get me through to the end of this rather weighty tome.

But when Joe fixes one particularly unusual device, his life is suddenly upended. Order by newest oldest recommendations. There were just too many words.
